Construction Manager

The role holder oversees and directs all construction projects from inception to completion and ensures effective operations and stakeholder management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides guidance to project teams on the strategy and direction in accomplishing project goals.
  • Ensures effective monitoring of all project plans and project sites and resolves project anomalies.
  • Negotiates terms of agreements, reviews contract and ensures all relevant permits and licenses are obtained.
  • Coordinates all operational activities of the Construction team and ensures performance evaluations are conducted.
  • Vets and approves all Purchase Requests, Purchase Orders, Valuations etc.
  • Leads meetings with QS team on valuation reports and BOQs and ensure projects are within scope and budget.
  • Reviews all Program of Works and ensures that project milestones are completed on time.
  • Manages all stakeholder interests in project execution and ensures that all conflicting interests are properly aligned.
  • Oversees the work activities of the safety champion to ensure all the safety needs on site are provided and adhered to.
  • Leads in conducting risk assessments on all projects and provides recommendations on risk management.
  • Ensures quality standards are maintained by conducting on-site inspections to ensure the appropriate level of quality control are adhered to.
  • Maintains key client relationships by liaising with clients to discuss prospective business, challenges, and progress.
  • Leads in investigating issues that may arise on site and provides advise to supervisors implementing action plans.
  • Oversee the process of liaising with KPL and other service providers to ensure machine availability for works and negotiating on rates for machine rental.
  • Collaborates with HR in determining resource requirements for smooth operations.
  • Prepares regular project reports for management (GM/MD/CEO)
  • Understanding on quality standards in construction.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge in construction and design for both road and building.
  • Professional Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • A master’s degree in engineering or management an added advantage.
  • Professional certification in Engineering (GhiE) required.
  • Project Management Professional Certificate would be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience managing a medium to large size team.
